On the east shore of scenic Sunset Lake in the tiny, rural village of Brookfield, Vermont stands a proud historic building. Originally built in 1850 as a boarding house for workers in the nearby mills, it is a fine example of mid-nineteenth century Vermont architecture.
The large auditorium on the ground floor with numerous windows, facing the shimmering lake, became the scene of many joyful barn dances in the early and mid-1900’s. Then times changed, and the Old Town Hall lay dormant, unused and ignored for fifty years. It fell into serious disrepair.
In 2002 the Brookfield Community Partnership purchased the building at auction. The BCP is a tax-exempt, non-profit, all-volunteer organization to benefit the residents of the greater Brookfield community. Our mission is to preserve and restore our historic Old Town Hall and support efforts in our town to connect people to this beautiful place and to each other.
