Brookfield Old Town Hall – Calendar

Tuesday yoga at the Brookfield Old Town Hall, running through the summer, taught by Deonne Poplawski or Sarah Shaw. Deonne brings a playful, supportive energy and believes yoga is for every 'body.' This year she's offering a Gentle Flow Class incorporating Vinyasa, Energy Medicine Yoga, Breathwork and gentle Kundalini Kriya — multi-level, appropriate for beginners and advanced practitioners. Sarah has been practicing yoga for over a decade with an emphasis on vinyasa-style practices, where breath and body connect with fluidity, intention, and ease through creative and playful transitions. She's dedicated to creating safe, kindred community spaces.

Learn about adaptive tools, techniques, and plant choices that help you stay active, comfortable, and creative in the garden for years to come.

John Lynde was a Black Revolutionary War veteran who moved to Brookfield with his Native-American/Black wife Judith Phillips several years after the war. They farmed the land, raised a family here, and two of their sons fought in the War of 1812. John and his sons voted in local elections. The grandchildren went to school and grew up in Brookfield, but as young adults most moved away and the family was forgotten. Old documents found by local researcher Sue Nevins have allowed for the retelling of this relatable American story of the Revolutionary War and beyond.

Sue Nevins runs the Roxbury Historical Society, serves on the cemetery commission, and is a Justice of the Peace in Roxbury. Previously a long-time teacher, she now works as a Vocational Counselor with the State of Vermont.

A moderated (but informal) discussion with the representatives and senator of the Orange-Washington-Addison district. The legislators will give a synopsis of the 2026 legislative session and take questions.

It's an opportunity to learn more about our neighbors and the place we all call home. Each true story will be between 5-6 minutes long.

Join us for a special evening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic movie 'Man with a Plan.' Whether you've seen it or not, come and enjoy the tale of real-life Tunbridge dairy farmer Fred Tuttle, as himself, in a fictional story that finds him running for the U.S. House of Representatives. The movie, released in 1996, has become a cult-classic that remains near and dear to many a Vermonter's heart. Stay afterwards for a Q&A with director John O'Brien.

Orange County forester Robert Nelson visited forests in Germany last year and will talk about forest management practices there, and how what he learned may impact his work in and around Brookfield and Orange County.

In the late '60s and '70s, a group of architects landed in Vermont with big ideas and a simple plan: to stop just designing buildings and start making them too. Drawing from Bauhaus ideals but rejecting the rigidity of academia, they built by hand, embraced mistakes, and turned architecture into a wild, creative experiment. More than just structures, they built a way of life — rooted in community, empowerment through doing, and the belief that process matters more than perfection.

Director Allie Rood grew up in the middle of it all, playing in half-finished houses where learning happened by trying and failing, and trying again. Years later, she picks up a camera to trace the movement's history, only to find herself pulled back into its ethos — this time by building a house of her own. Both nostalgic and full of momentum, the film is a celebration of making cool stuff, messing up, and making more cool stuff.
